OSVALDO FRESEDO  1897 - 1984 : Bandoneonist, Director & Composer

Fresedo (El Pibe de La Paternal) was born in Buenos Aires and had a long tango career with over 1250 recordings and 63 years.
By 1927 he kept five orchestras performing at once and introduced new colours to tango, such as the harp and vibraphone and discretionary use of drums. He selected singers to match the refinement and melodic elegance of his orchestral style, with a focus on wave-like melody plus uninterrupted beat & rhythm, giving space to both.  His most famous song: “Vida Mia”.
Fresedo’s repertoire was also enhanced with works written by his talented musicians and not found in other repertoires.
Dancing to Fresedo
•    Listen to the melodic lines of the violins.
•    Follow the melody in the embrace, while following the rhythm with your legs.
•    Coordinated breathing and lowering and elevating of the centre.
•    Use of arrastre (starting quietly and accelerating to a crescendo).
